Abdiel, native of Côte d'Ivoire, currently is a Fulbright Specialist of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and World Learning. He was a Principal Dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company for 7 years and has performed many lead roles in Graham's iconic repertory, including Errand into the Maze partnering prima ballerina Diana Vishneva. As well, he has performed original works by Nacho Duato, Robert Wilson, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, SonyaTayeh, Luca Veggetti, Andonis Foniadakis, Michelle Dorrance, Larry Keigwin, Doug Varone, Richard Move, and more. Mr. Jacobsen received a BFA in Dance from the University of the Arts and he is also a Professional Competitive Ballroom and Latin Dance Champion. He has performed as a featured guest artist for the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Buglisi Dance Theatre, Cecilia Marta Dance Company and the Gotham Chamber Opera. He is an active member of the social dance community and has been teaching for over 10 years social partner dance genres including: waltz, foxtrot, tango, viennese waltz, quickstep, salsa, mambo, cha cha, rumba, bolero, bachata, merengue, and hustle. He has taught for various educational institutions including Arthur Murray Dance International of where he received his teacher certification.
WHAT HE’S UP TO
Abdiel is a former Principal Dancer with Martha Graham Dance Company, a Lucille DiCampli artists representation, a teacher, a choreographer and a model. Most recently, he is performing in an off-broadway play, Hautey: Memory of Fire.
In October, he will be premiering and performing a new piece of his choreography in collaboration with Kristine Bendul for the Canada Salsa and Bachata Congress. Abdiel has also been commissioned to create a new piece of work for the OYO Dance Company in Columbus, Ohio this November. In December, Abdiel will be performing for the Buglisi Dance Theatre for the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center in Tivoli, NY.
